Check Out Our Variety - Practical to Playful

We keep a good supply of practical second hand things in the store -- tools, kitchenwares, sweatshirts -- things you'll use day in and day out.

But, we also have some of those one-of-a-kind things for collectors. And, a few things that you just have to come and see for yourself because there's no way I can adequately describe them.

Here are a few of those not so common items we have now:

~ Smoking, water fountain birdbath -- with roving red lights.
~ Asbestos shingle cutter -- a must have item for tool collectors.
~ Press -- I don't know what it presses, but it is heavy duty.

Newly Added or Restocked Used Merchandise

~ Stacked washer and dryer
~ Tent -- clean and in a handy carrying case
~ Flower vases and bud vases
~ Woolrich bib overalls
~ Battery charger
~ Roasters -- Thanksgiving will be here before you know it!
~ Used golf balls

There's Time for Homemade Root Beer

Summer may be close to over, but there's still time to make homemade root beer using Watkins Root Beer Extract. It's been a party hit across the Kenai Peninsula this summer. And, yes, we do have the extract in stock at AK Secondhand store.

Here's the recipe:

Homemade Watkins Root Beer

Instructions:

• Large insulated drink cooler
• 6 cups white sugar
• 3 1/3 gallons cold water
• 2 oz. Watkins root beer extract
• 4 lbs. dry ice
• Heavy plastic gloves for handling the dry ice
• Large metal spoon, or other stirring utensil

Mix together the sugar and water, pouring both into the insulated cooler. Stir until the mixture dissolves completely.

Blend in the Watkins root beer extract, stirring well.

Put on the plastic gloves before carefully adding the dry ice to the cooler.

Cover loosely, but do not seal. Air pressure can build up inside the cooler, causing it to explode.

Allow mixture to stand at room temperature for about an hour, before serving.

Store leftover root beer in gallon jugs, in a cool, dry place.
